VISIBLE TATTOOS
Any visible tattoo may seem like a great idea, a statement, a fashion accessory or a sign of intent BUT the long term affect should be considered. As professional tattooists, part of our job is to advise our customers of problems they may encounter. This includes psychological and social as well as the obvious hygiene issues.
At any age but particularly if you are young, a highly visible tattoo is going to last the rest of your life, barring removal and that could be 60 years or more! Things to consider are, relatives, friends or other peoples attitudes, job interviews, entrance to certain establishments, potential boyfriend/girlfriends, their parents, your children’s school teachers and even your own children’s embarrassment! Its OK for the likes of Robbie Williams or Cheryl Cole, they are millionaires and they call the shots but for us mere mortals, we have to live with the reality of any unwise decision we make! Having explained all that, we will do certain visible tattoos. For the record, there are no laws prohibiting visible tattoos but please take a little time to think fully about it!
FACIAL TATTOOS
Under no circumstances will we perform facial tattoos.
It sends the wrong message about our trade and tattooed people, becomes a burden for the wearer and the bottom line is, we can think of no instance when anyone looked better for having their face tattooed!
HANDS AND NECKS
Everything in the first section applies specifically to hands and necks, PLUS of course in the case of hands, it must be remembered we use them all the time, so extra care should be taken whilst healing!
HEADS (above the hairline)
Again everything aforesaid applies BUT for men the possibility of baldness should be considered.
AND FINALLY....
Although some visible tattoos can be strikingly beautiful, complete confidence in your decision is a must, if you
are not to regret it in later life Tattoo removal, can be painful, expensive, time consuming and results are not
guaranteed!
COVER UPS
The term cover up can lead to confusion for lots of people. Its a bad choice of words because we are not brick walls and a tattooist does not use paint! If at home you are fed up with the colour of your walls, you paint over or cover it up with another colour. A tattoo is not on the body, its in the body and therefore for it to be disguised and redesigned, another tattoo has to placed in the skin WITH IT to the same depth, NOT over it. Effectively you now have two tattoos in the same place. So choice of tattoo is all the more important and a compromise may have to be reached between what you would like and what will work!
When viewing the studio flash, it must be remembered where you see white paper, this would represent your skin, not the colour white and as such if the tattoo was applied , where the white gaps are, there is already a tattoo! So placement of the tattoo is also important. As you can see
from the example this would not have worked, had the tattoo have to of been placed a couple of inches to the right.
You must also remember, dark colours are always dominant over light colours and will show when the tattoo is healed. In most
cases, it is usually necessary to ‘freehand’ a tattoo design, that is drawn it straight on to the skin, to ensure that every part of the
old tattoo is concealed.
